A Little Over 24 Hours

Did you miss me? Did you know I was gone? We were without internet and phone service for a little over 24hrs between yesterday afternoon and this afternoon. It's sure a good thing we have our little pre-paid cell phones!
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I did learn how to test to see if the problem is in the house or on the phone company's end and I also learned that a huge ant colony was living inside our outdoor phone testy thing- ewww. They were wiped out in my "raid" hee, hee, -get it, "Raid" Anyway. . .
Kiree in her little white bucket hat with enormous strap.

We went to the library and I got myself two books written by Miss Manners. I finished the smaller one "Miss Manners' Basic Training: The Right Thing to Say" and I've started on the much larger "Miss Manners' Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior Freshly Updated" So far I've thought they are interesting and informative. The way she writes reminds me a little bit of Lemony Snicket. In addition to those and a couple of movies for Jaide, I also got the documentary "Supersize Me" which we haven't watched yet. I'll have to let you know what I think once we've had the chance.

Belated Happy Birthday Wishes to Mom/Grandma R!

Kiree crys out in baby language "mom! I'm teething and it hurts!!" loudly for all at the Walmart to hear. Unfortunately, to adults it just sounds like "waaaaahhhh! ahhhhhh! *scream*"

It's Tough Tough to be a Baby!

My poor little girls! We are having rough times with health related issues. Jaide's tick bite, at least seems to have gotten better. It's extremely hard to even find now. The darn stupid tick is still alive in the baby food jar inside a ziplock. That thing will probably live many, many months off it's Jaide feast. But anyway...
Picture: Kiree fell asleep one day when Bob was feeding her
Yesterday Kiree felt warm. She ended up with a fever. We tried a couple of times to take her temperature (I did the armpit way, Bob got her to suck on the thermometer- neither completely accurate) more that once we got temperatures over 100. We used cool washcloths, a coolish bath, and baby tylenol to cool her down. She had a rough night though. She kept waking up and wanted to nurse a lot. She woke up around six this morning and was quite warm again. So I got out more cool washcloths and that seemed to help. Bob got ready and went to his meeting. Miraculously, Jaide went for my suggestion that she go downstairs and play computer games.
Picture: Kiree today in the walker (she really does have two legs) I managed to get Kiree to go back to sleep for a bit over a half hour and I got to sleep some more too- yay!
Kiree's been a bit cranky today, but she hasn't been as hot as she was. We'll see how tonight goes. We think it might be related to teething. I don't think she has any teeth erupted yet, but it seems like something similar happened to Jaide around this time (that ended up in a trip to the ER and just rocking her there with a cool towel- oh and they gave her baby motrin). Then Jaide got her first tooth within about a month.
I forgot to mention in previous posts, but Kiree has been wiggling and squiggling around. She's not crawling yet, but she manages to get around quite a bit of floor with rolls and squirms.
I guess it's tough to be a preschooler too. You hate going to sharing time for some strange reason but you always end up singing the songs all around the house. And you end up falling down a lot. We were cleaning up a bit this evening and Jaide was dancing around being a princess.
Picture: Jaide in her princess dress, not today, but it's the same dress she was wearing today. Apparently she tripped and hit her ear on the edge of her little table. We debated a bit about how big the wound was and whether or not it needed stiches. Bob had put a dora bandaid over it and when we took it off to look at it again it was still bleeding quite a bit. The wound was a little "gaping." So Bob and Jaide went to an urgent care place. The doctor said it didn't need stitches though. I'm glad that Jaide was alright with just Bob taking her since Kiree was very tired.

Very Disturbing!

Jaide was playing the Sims this afternoon. Actually I was playing and she was watching. I had to change Kiree's diaper, so I went upstairs and Jaide took over playing. We were playing a family with our names and they even looked kind of like us. Next thing I know, Jaide comes up crying and carrying on like someone died. Someone did die- our sims. They started a fire and the Bob and Meg characters died. The Jaide character was stuck in the flames and as the grim reaper danced around. It was actually quite disturbing. I felt really bad about it. I restarted the game because for some reason Jaide still wanted to play "the family game" as she calls it. I was running my fingers through her hair and I noticed something weird. She had a big fat tick stuck to the back of her head! I got it off and commenced freaking out. I didn't know it was a tick at first but I figured it was bad. Somehow I managed to get the still living bugger into an empty baby food jar while juggling an increasingly cranky Kiree. I ended up calling the pediatricians office and they said to call again tomorrow if the rash spreads or she gets a fever. Hopefully everything will be alright!! That dumb thing is still alive crawling around that jar (which is now doubly secure in a ziplock). I don't know how long it was there (we were inside all day today, only out to church and back yesterday, and indoors most of Saturday). Yikes!
Two things struck me- 1. how protective I still am of my first baby even though she's not a baby anymore and 2. how much babies pick up on your emotions- Kiree could tell that I was upset and it made her upset too.
I asked Jaide if her head had hurt and she said no. I think she was far more upset about our virtual family's horrific demise than the parasite that had been living on the back of her head for who knows how many days. "how'd a bug get on my hair?" she said with a smile.

How I Spent my Summery Weekend

Bob took this past Friday off of work and we decided to go down to DC to the Smithsonian. We went to the Air and Space Museum. I visited there very briefly 13 years ago this very month on my 8th grade graduation trip. There seemed to be quite a few kids there on similar types of trips.

We had a fun time. Jaide and Kiree wore matching shirts. We didn't get a picture of the three of us girls in our (sorta) matching white bucket hats.

We found a table tucked away in the back of the food court and ate our sandwiches we brought from home.

We tried to come home and quickly to make desserts for the ward activity. We ended up being about 45 minutes late- brownies take a long time to cook! Bob made the secret family recipe pineapple upside down cake, I made cream cheese brownies. They didn't quite turn out as planned but they still tasted alright. (pictured: me pointing to the picture in the cookbook and what they ended up looking like)

This week we also purchased a new addition to our family. Our old snail, Dora died and we needed a new one. We had to go to three pet stores to finally find one that had snails in stock but we got this yellow guy who Jaide named "From Thirsty" So that's what we call him.

Saturday we all went to the temple (I took the girls to Ikea while Bob did a session). Then we cleaned the ward building. We were very tired!

When the internet goes down, nobody's happy!

Okay, maybe that's not completely true, but now that Jaide likes to play the games on pbskids.org she also gets mad when the internet goes down. I was internetless most of today and it wasn't fun! But hooray for Bob! He fixed it! Woo hoo!

We've had a lot of time these past couple of days to make our own kind of adventures which is to say, time has been going by s...l....o....o...o.....w........l..........y and I'm having a hard time finding activities with which to fill it. The kiddos seem to default to crying and/or whining. Here's some of what I've come up with lately- besides crying and whining.

The weather has been good so we've been going outside more, backyard, front porch, the park... I've even got an ouchy sunburn to prove it!

Driving, driving, driving, hooray! Driving is the best way to get a cranky pants baby to take a nap! At least that's been my experience. Today we went for a drive to see what we could see. Like the little guys in a game of Civilization we headed off our map of the known world and into the dark beyond. We drove down this road off to a kind of woodsy area. We ended up on this little tiny dead end road that had these really cool, really old houses in various stages of destruction. I wondered if there were any cool historic artifacts in the debris.

Jaide has her little class on Weds mornings and today she told me I could leave (I always ask if she wants me to leave or stay). "You should buy some bananas" she told me. I went to Kohls and they didn't have any bananas, so I didn't buy any. But I did buy a pair of pants and two cute shirts. The extra large shirts I bought a little while back are starting to look kinda big and ugly on me. Yay for cute size large shirts!

And yay for losing 15 pounds since December! Slow and steady wins the race right? I don't want to go back now that I'm under 1(X)0* (I'd pronounce that one ex-tee if you were wondering). And that's why I'm trying not to turn to my old go to- food for help with dealing with the stresses of the looooooooooong days.

*number omitted to keep everyone else from feeling too good about themselves at my expense.

Mmmmmmm, peas

Personally, I don't like peas. Split pea soup is okay, but peas on their own, not so much. But I don't let that influence my girls! Peas were the first veggie jaide had and now they're Kiree's first as well. Jaide still enjoys peas and Kiree loves some strained peas!
Here's a picture of the second time Kiree had peas. We missed the photo op the first time.

Kiree is 5 months old today! Here are some pictures where you can see her whole face :)

Springing

Last weekend we started working on our little back yard garden. Jaide danced around (and did some karate moves or something). Kiree was in the front pack with a blanket over her head. The trees are blooming flowers. The daffodils have been up for a while (they're starting to look sad). The tulips are trying to bloom but some dirty animal is decapitating them. I saw some chewed up pieces.

Jaide started another little class. This one is about science and discovering stuff.

Kiree's a cutie, she had her first baby food peas yesterday and liked them a lot!

One Last Fool Thing

Every year Google has something fun on their site on April 1st.
This year would be no exception.
Wanna volunteer to go to Mars?
Here's the questionnaire

More April Foolin'

Here's another fun thing lovingly ripped off of another friend's blog- only with my answers put in :) Thanks Jenni and Cami too!

1. Your rock star name (first pet, current car): hmmm, I can't remember which pet was my very first but here are a couple of choices for you- Chewy, Tabit, Ursa, and Puma Honda (they could be a whole rock band- although something doodlebop-esque comes to my mind)

2. Your gangsta name (fave ice cream flavour, favourite type of shoe): Chocolate Nike (mmmmmm, chocolate nike)

3. Your Native American name (favourite colour, favourite animal): Yellow Giraffe (they kind of are, aren't they?)

4. Your soap opera name (middle name, city where you were born): Ann Maywood

5. Your Star Wars name (the first 3 letters of your last name, first 2 of your first name): Ricme (I wonder how that would be pronounced?)

6. Superhero name (2nd favourite colour, favourite drink): The Red Rootbeer! (I think it works better if you add "the" at the beginning)

7. NASCAR name (the first names of your grandfathers): John Joseph Floyd (I don't know much about NASCAR, but that could work couldn't it? )
8. Stripper name Jenni said (I like the way Cami did this one so it's my first pet and hometown street name): Ursa Talman? (I've also heard pet's name and mother's maiden name for that one)
10. TV weather anchor name (your 5th grade teacher’s last name, a major city that starts with the same letter): Hillman Houston (at least I think that was her last name, it's funny how much you forget, I can't even remember college professors names any more!)

11. Spy name (your favourite season/holiday, flower): Christmas Tigerlily (that is one fearsome name :)

12. Cartoon name: (favourite fruit, article of clothing you’re wearing right now): Cherry T-shirt (yeah, that one doesn't seem to work too well)

13. Hippie name (What you ate for breakfast, your favourite tree): Cheerios Maple (hmm, sounds like something they might serve in Canada)

Here we go again!

I'm beyond stunned!
