Spring Break in Florida: Beaches, Conference, and Easter

For spring break we drove down to Florida to visit my dear friend and college roommate Amber.  We had so much fun!  I'm going to try to break it down into just three posts to make them not so long.  We left after Bob's volleyball game Thursday night and luckily made it all the way to our hotel in Raleigh, NC by about 12:30 (rather than the after 2am we were worried it would be).  After some sleep and breakfast we were off again.  We stopped at welcome centers in South Carolina and Georgia to be welcomed on our first time to those states.  We made it to Jacksonville about 7 that night.  Besides one really slow stretch (an accident blocked things up pretty bad in SC) and the girls fighting with each other for entertainment, the drive was pretty uneventful.

Saturday we headed to the beach before the first session of conference.  It was a little overcast and the ocean was a little cold, but we still had a lot of fun.  We forgot the camera, but Amber took a few pics with her phone.  Kiree was in heaven digging in and playing in the sand.  The girls collected shells.  We all (except Kiree) jumped into the ocean and frolicked in the waves.  During the break we checked out the pool and playground at Amber's complex.  It was still a bit cold for swimming though.  Bob went to the store to buy the traditional Saturday conference icecream.  Saturday night we had girls night in while Bob went to Priesthood session.  Amber and I took apart her vacuum and got it working again.

Sunday morning we had an indoor Easter egg hunt.  We went to Amber's mom's house for brunch, conference, bbq, and more conference.  We got to meet Adam (Amber's brother)'s wife Andrea and all the four legged members of the extended family.  The girls loved, loved, loved playing with the dogs and playing outside in the backyard.   We made plans with Adam to meet up with him to get into Disney later that week.  Adam and Andrea are in the Finding Nemo show at the Animal Kingdom park and so they get to bring some people to Disney for free.  We were really grateful to them!

Sunday evening after conference we took a little downtown Jacksonville tour with Amber as our guide.  We got to see the famous blue bridge and we managed to take a few pictures (Jaide took the one of Amber and I).  Bob waited in the car with "no nap" Kiree who had finally fallen asleep at this point while we got out for a little bit.

Monday morning we headed down towards Orlando.  Our original plans were to go to Disney Monday and Tuesday, but those days ended up being blacked out so we just did other fun stuff those days.  On the way down we wanted to stop at St. Augustine Beach.  We ended up at another beach nearby.  Google helped us figure out it was Vilano Beach.  It was kind of cool.  It had tons and tons of shells.  Near the water the sand was just covered with broken shell bits.  We collected many pretty shells.  The best part was that it wasn't very crowded at all and there was free parking, a picnic area, and a playground all across the street from it.  Kiree thoroughly enjoyed playing in the sand.  Jaide joined with her and also started to get more comfortable going into the water.  The waves were pretty rough near the shore but once you got out a little bit they weren't bad.  Jaide and I took our tubes out past the rough waves and floated in them for a little while.

Our day at the beach was very relaxing.  When we were pretty hungry and ready to go, we went back across the street, got changed, and had lunch.  Then we headed down to Orlando.

next up: Orlando and a trip to the Gulf

Sounds like a lot of fun. Also, is Kiree's hair really that curly nowadays?

Yup, Kiree's got some kinda long, flowing, curly, reddish blonde (more blonde now from the sun) hair.

That looks like you had a great time. It was fun to see the yellow shovel that Kiree showed me on the phone today in the photos!
